Opposites

Opposites blog

This watercolor and pencil illustration was for a newsletter publication in the UK. I was given a text and my client asked if I could provide her with an illustration that would highlight the essence of the article. The issue was about inner conflict and efter some brainstorming and drafting I decided I wanted to portray it by having one face looking down in a subdued and hopeless way, while the other face gazes upwards, seeing opportunities instead of problems.

It was a pleasure to work with this project and an interesting challenge to freely base it upon a text in the form of an article. It was a new way of working for me and I hope to have the opportunity to work in the similar way again sometime.

Pencil Sketch In Progress

pencil sketch, drawing, blyerts, skissteckning, rita, skiss, drawing

Teaching a drawing course this fall so brushing up on some drawing techniques. Found these one when doing some research of past work. After shaping the forms I draw lightly with a pencil of H or higher. After a while I move on to grains HB, 2B and so on. It is always helpful to draw shadows in the direction of the form to create a sense of depth.
